Style and Colour: Flemish red-brown sour ale.
Taste: Tart / sour backbone (apple, cherry, red berries) balanced by sweet malt notes (caramel, honey). Flavours of oak and vanilla from barrel aging, light spice (licorice, wood) and a subtle “wine-like” acidity.
Alcohol: 7 % ABV
Drinking Temperature: 6 - 8° C
Fermentation: Mixed fermentation. Aged 2 years in large oak casks (foeders)
100% matured “old beer” (no young beer blended in).
The Brewery: The Brasserie Rodenbach is located in Roeselare, South of Bruges, in Belgium. It was established in 1820 by four brothers. Owned by the Palm Jan Toyes brewery since 1998, they have worked to perpetuate this unique style of Belgian beer.
Origin: It was Eugène Robenbach, one of their descendants, who brought the secrets of ageing in oak barrels from England.
Food: Works exceptionally well with duck, pork, veal, aged cheeses or blue cheese
dishes with fruit sauces (cherry, plum).
