The Brewery: Leroy Breweries is one of Belgium’s oldest family‑run breweries, with roots going back over four centuries. The brewery has been run by successive generations of the Leroy family, now into its tenth and eleventh generations of brewers. Located in West Flanders, in Poperinge region.
Origin: “Hommel” is the local Flemish dialect word for hop, reflecting the beer’s hop‑forward character and the region’s identity as one of Belgium’s main hop‑growing areas (Poperinge). It was created specifically for the Poperinge Hop and Beer Festival to showcase the region’s hop heritage.
Food: Pairs with soft cheese, roast chicken or turkey, grilled pork or sausages, salmon or trout and shellfish.
